The firing of James Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was a decision that drew a whole load of backlash, and few were more vocal in their objections than Dave Bautista. Last year, the actor even admitted that he’s not sure if he wants to keep working for Disney, and when the news first broke that Gunn was working on a second Suicide Squad movie, Bautista could soon be found on Twitter asking, “Where do I sign up?” And while the Guardians of the Galaxy star may not have been entirely serious in his question, a new report from Collider suggests that the actor may actually be in the running for a part.
The recent article relays word of various comic book characters who are expected to make their DCEU debuts in The Suicide Squad. Among the potential inclusions listed is one Christopher Smith, better known as Peacemaker. For those who don’t know, this paradoxical figure is a pacifist who loves peace so much that he’s willing to kill for it, and according to Collider’s sources, Gunn is keen on seeing Bautista in the role.
So long as Bautista is working for Marvel Studios, his contract may forbid him from starring in a DC flick, meaning that even if Warner Bros. is happy to bring the Drax actor on board, the legal situation could make things a little tricky. In any case, a report published by THR earlier this week alleged that Gunn’s film is moving quickly into the casting stage, suggesting that we may not have too long to wait before getting some confirmation either way.
But regardless of the line-up that Gunn and Warner assemble, we’ll be seeing them in action when The Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 6th, 2021.
