James Gunn May’ve Confirmed Harley Quinn For The Suicide Squad

Still, one would think it insane to discard every character from Task Force X’s first mission on the big screen. Love it or hate it, David Ayer’s Suicide Squad was a financial success and merchandising monster, with the latter owing a lot to Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn. And with Will Smith not returning as Deadshot, it’d be in the studio’s best interest to retain another marquee player.

Now, this isn’t the first time Gunn has teased Harley for his movie, but any bit of reassurance certainly helps. This time, on Instagram, the Marvel/DC switch-hitter posted a few shots showing off “The King Sharkade,” one of which shows him aligning “King Shark” with “Harley” on a Scrabble board (seen below).

Should Harley indeed show up, we can only wonder how this’ll align with whatever’s established over in Birds of Prey. Maybe it’s just me, but I’d want to know why she was walking free for a time before once again becoming a hired gun for Amanda Waller. I guess we’ll have to wait and find out.

Then again, Gunn’s film may not make mention of Birds of Prey and instead just hit the ground running. If you’ve read both Harley Quinn and Suicide Squad comics in recent years, then you’d remember how it was like reading books set in two separate universes. In her solo title, the former Clown Princess of Crime would be engaging in wacky adventures in New York, whereas she’d have a bomb in her neck and was hooking up with Rick Flagg elsewhere in the team-ups. I’d even go as far to say her characterization was different in each series.

In any case, keep watching this space, as we should learn much more before The Suicide Squad arrives in theaters on August 6th, 2021.
