James Gunn adds another deep cut superhero to the list of potential DCU debutants

Gunn's really turning up the heat with these teases.

It’s safe to say at this point that James Gunn took plenty of notes during his time with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, considering how well he’s been handling the influx of Twitter pings sent his way ever since his appointment as the co-CEO of DC Studios. Indeed, you’d be hard-pressed to find a species more tenacious than the comic book film fan; if they’re not asking about a movie, they’re asking about a character, and if they’re not asking about either, they’re daydreaming about both.

In any case, Gunn’s had to field more than a few prying questions regarding the incoming DCU overhaul, and to the joy of many, he’s chosen to be quite responsive, as he was recently when asked about the possibility of a relatively unsung Justice League favorite entering the fray.

When asked if Firestorm – the nuclear-pyrokinetic hero born from the fusion of teenager Ronnie Raymond and brilliant scientist Martin Stein – was a character that he was fond of, Gunn gave a simple “yes” as his response, and frankly, that’s all he needs to say to make the DC fandom happy.

Prior to the announcement of the DCU, Firestorm appeared in Arrowverse projects such as The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow, where he was portrayed by the trio of Robbie Amell, Victor Garber, and Franz Drameh, the last of whom portrays Jax Jackson, the successor to Robbie Raymond (Arnell) who fuses with Dr. Stein (Garber) to become Firestorm.

We doubt we’ll be seeing Firestorm show up during Gods and Monsters, but the bottom line is that the character is on Gunn’s radar, and that’s reason enough to be excited.
