The biggest selling film of all time, Avatar, which was directed by the self proclaimed “King of the World” James Cameron, is going to be receiving two sequels. Now the filmmaker has shed some more light on the progress of these projects and it seems more talking has been done with the studio. In speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Cameron states:

I am in the process of writing the next two Avatar films now. We are planning to shoot them together and post them together, and we will probably release them not quite back to back, but about a year apart. Christmas ’14 and ’15 is the current plan. Basically, if you survived the first film, you get to be in the second film, at least in some form… [And] Fox has partnered with me to donate a chunk of the profits to environmental causes that are at the heart of the Avatar world. I didn’t want to make more Avatar movies without a grander plan in place.

So the back-to-back shooting decision has now been made, the last we heard of this it all depended on Cameron’s script and how they worked out together. He also claims that a lot of the cast will be returning, well those who survived, but a while ago he was also interested in bringing back Sigourney Weaver claiming something along the lines of: “no one is truly dead in science fiction”. So we’ll be seeing more of Cameron’s behemoth in the next three years, but by the sounds of where he is at, Avatar 2 is a long way off.
