Ana De Armas has risen up to become a surprise icon of the spy genre. The Blonde actress first got her secret agent game on by becoming a legitimate Bond Woman in No Time To Die before teaming up with another of her Knives Out co-stars, Chris Evans, in Apple TV Plus’ Ghosted. Next, she’s set to star in her very own John Wick spinoff movie, Ballerina. So it’s worth paying attention to who the actress wants to see replace her good pal Daniel Craig as the new James Bond.
Unfortunately, it seems the majority of Bond fans are not feeling her personal pick for the seventh actor to play 007. In a Wired Autocomplete Interview, De Armas revealed that she would love to see Normal People and Aftersun actor Paul Mescal pick up the Walther-PPK next, remarking that he “should be the one.” Given that Mescal is a star on the rise, you might think he’d have a swell of support as our new Bond, but actually even his most devoted followers don’t think he’s the right fit for the part.
In other words, don’t turn our “drama boy” into an “action boy.”
Although if he wants to play the next Bond villain, he’s more than welcome.
You can’t fault that logic.
Others used this opportunity to correct De Armas’ choice with their own suggestions.
The White Lotus‘ Theo James is a name that’s coming up a lot.
Renfield‘s Nicholas Hoult is also having a moment right now.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson was rumored to have secretly landed the gig not too long ago.
Supposedly, producers have yet to even start the casting process, as they’re still focusing on fineturning their creative vision for the next era of James Bond before finding the right man (and it will be a man) for the job. Still, by the looks of it, Ana De Armas should maybe prepare herself for it not going to her boy, Paul Mescal.
