UPDATE: Sony has debuted the full length-trailer as well, and it can be seen below.
The search for extra-terrestrial intelligence comes to a quick and terrifying end in this new promo for Life, Daniel Espinosa’s near-future thriller that takes the International Space Station and transforms it into a haunted house riddled with sentient alien organisms and spine-chilling terror.
As promised, Sony has now released an eerie new teaser for the film, which will also air during tomorrow’s Super Bowl LI (in an extended version), marking the first time the studio has booked a spot during the primetime NFL window since The Amazing Spider-Man 2. They’ve clearly invested a lot of faith in Espinosa’s vision and at least based on this exciting sneak peek, it’s not too difficult to see why.
Featuring a cast toplined by Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds and Rebecca Ferguson’s astronauts, Life imagines a scenario in which the crew of the ISS detects signs of extraterrestrial life on Mars. Overcome with excitement, they quickly uncover a sample and bring it on board for further inspection – ignoring every shred of common sense in the book – but what ought to be one of humanity’s greatest achievements soon devolves into a full-blown nightmare.
Also starring Olga Dihovichnaya, Ariyon Bakare and Hiroyuki Sanad, Life was once slated to blast off in May. However, 20th Century Fox’s decision to relocate Alien: Covenant – another sci-fi movie featuring extra-terrestrial nasties – seems to have forced Sony’s hand. Expect Espinosa’s space thriller to enter low Earth orbit on March 24th, when Sony will have Lionsgate and their squad of Power Rangers to contend with.
In light of the new promo reveal, tell us, are you excited to see Gyllenhaal, Reynolds and Ferguson go up against their greatest fears in zero-G? Do let us know.
