TV viewers have already been introduced to Jada Pinkett Smith as a comic-book character thanks to her starring role as Fish Mooney on Fox’s Gotham. But with confirmation that Smith will not be returning to the series next season, the actress has gone on record to state that she already has her sights set on another DC Comics hero.
Talking to MTV News in support of Magic Mike XXL, Smith said, “There’s a character that I love in the DC World, her name is Vixen.” The actress continued:
“Probably haven’t heard much of her. She’s kind of in that Suicide Squad world as well. I love Vixen. If there was any character, I would love to play her. I’m going to have to put my little word in with the director…”
The Vixen character isn’t one of the more prominent figures in DC Comics, but she’s actually already making a comeback, with CW Seed creating an animated series based around the hero. So, by the time Suicide Squad hits theaters, Vixen will already be more well-known than she is currently, which would suggest chances of her showing up in the big screen will increase substantially.
[zerg]Additionally, Smith has a fairly direct line to the DC Comics cinematic universe. In addition to playing a role on Gotham, the actress’ off-screen husband is Will Smith – aka Deadshot, one of the leads in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad film. Given that, Smith may very well get the chance to play Vixen if the character ends up being introduced somewhere down the line.
The question is, do you think she has what it takes to pull off the part? Smith’s portrayal of Mooney received mixed reviews, as did most things about Gotham, so whether that performance will hurt or help her bid to play Vixen remains to be seen.
