Harry Knowles of Ain’t It Cool News is reporting that two sources have confirmed to him a very intriguing piece of information. Apparently, Jack Reynor, who will lead Transformers: Age of Extinction, has been cast in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII in an unspecified role. We don’t have any other details at this time and of course, the studio has not made any official comment on it. That being said, it’s definitely worth talking about.
While it seems like every other day we’re hearing a new rumor about a hot, young actor being cast in the next installment of Star Wars, Harry Knowles is a well connected individual with a lot of solid, reputable sources. Sure, he’s been wrong before but at the same time, he’s also been right on a lot of very big scoops.
Plus, we know that Abrams is looking to cast a young, relatively unknown but up and coming actor in one of the lead roles and Reynor fits that mould perfectly. He’s quite talented (just check out his chilling lead turn in the Irish drama What Richard Did) but not a lot of people are familiar with his name just yet. That will all change once Transformers hits theatres this summer though. Though the artistic merit of the blockbuster may be questionable, you can be sure that Abrams will be watching closely to see how the actor handles himself in a special effects-driven production.
For now, we’ll take this one with a grain of salt. But at the same time, I wouldn’t be too surprised if it ended up being true.
