While the social media activity of various Pinewood Studios crew members already gave a strong indication that filming for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX was finally wrapping today, director J.J. Abrams just made the news official in a new tweet that also shares an emotional moment from the set of the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy’s final installment.
In recent weeks, we’ve already seen a few social media posts from cast members like Anthony Daniels and Jimmy Vee that marked the end of their time on set. Now, it seems it’s Abrams’ turn to call it day, and so The Force Awakens helmsman took to Twitter with a message thanking his “truly magical” cast and crew:
“It feels impossible, but today wrapped photography on Episode IX. There is no adequate way to thank this truly magical crew and cast. I’m forever indebted to you all.”
In the accompanying photo, we see three of the saga’s heroes share a group hug in what looks to be the film’s desert set in Wadi Rum, Jordan.
Though it was already pretty much confirmed that John Boyega had visited this location, it looks like Finn will be sharing scenes in the desert with Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac). Incidentally, though set photos for Episode IX have been in short supply, the few we’ve seen have strongly suggested that Finn and Poe will have a fair amount of screen time together, with the two of them also showing up in pics alongside Chewbacca on a set in the UK.
In any case, with principal photography wrapped for Star Wars: Episode IX, a lot of fans will now be wondering if Abrams is finally feeling ready to make that long-awaited title drop, but regardless of what the coming weeks bring, we’ve still got a fair amount of waiting to do before the film hits theaters on December 2oth, 2019.
