‘It’s an incredible thing’: Gal Gadot doesn’t seem too bummed out by the demise of ‘Wonder Woman 3’

Surely 'Shazam! Fury of the Gods' can't be it?

One of the biggest early casualties of James Gunn’s DCU was Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 3, which admittedly wasn’t the co-CEO’s doing, but the ball nonetheless remains in his court when it comes to picking up the pieces.

The third installment in the franchise was initially placed on the fast-track to development shortly after the release of sequel 1984, which seemed strange at the time given the wildly divisive responses to Diana Prince’s second solo outing. However, after falling out with the studio over story disagreements, the project has been placed on an indefinite hold.

While it’s undoubtedly the breakthrough role and most recognizable part of Gadot’s career, when asked by Total Film what the future holds for her on a professional level even with Wonder Woman 3 lodged firmly in purgatory for the foreseeable future, the actress put a remarkably positive spin on the situation.

“To me, starting and developing stories that I’m passionate about is an incredible thing. The fact that I don’t have to sit still at home and just wait for the next offer is something that makes me feel empowered. I enjoy doing it, it keeps me alive. I’m not only going to do my own projects, I’m going to work as an actress-for-hire still.

But the fact that I can go ahead and tell the stories that I’m passionate about – from ideas that I conceived, or from ideas that I find fascinating from people that want to partner with us – it’s an incredible thing. It’s something that I’m so grateful for and I am definitely going to continue that because it’s worth it. I’m very, very excited and humbly proud.”

No Wonder Woman? No problem, even if does present the terrifying prospect of catastrophic box office bomb Shazam! Fury of the Gods marking one of her last-ever appearances as the Amazonian superhero.
