It seems as though enough time has passed for Hayley Atwell to share how she really feels about returning as Peggy Carter in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe veteran doesn’t seem to thrilled about her short-lived guest spot.

Having been hitting the press trail hard for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, the actress was inevitably going to be facing a deluge of inquiries about her past, present, and future as part of Kevin Feige’s sandbox. Rather hilariously, she hasn’t exactly been showering her appearance in the mot glowing of praise.

The latest outlet to feel the wrath of Atwell is Inverse, and she’s happy to voice her exasperation – with some agreement sprinkled in – that her brief stint under the Union Jack-clad costume was, as she put it, lame.

Multiverse of Madness was kind of wild. It was such a weird cameo to do. When she says ‘I could do this all day,’ people were like, ‘Haha, but you didn’t cause you got sliced in half by a Frisbee!’ And so I got a lot of, ‘Hah, she’s lame because of that.’ And yeah, maybe she wasn’t as taken care of in that movie as she could have been.”

“Lame” might not be the operative word, but “pointless” might be. After all, introducing a massively popular MCU returnee as an alternate ass-kicking version of themselves just to murder them for the sake of a gag was fan service and nothing else, with Atwell deserving of much better.
