Along with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 sits far and above the rest of Marvel’s cinematic efforts from the past two years, enjoying both a successful run at the global box office and some generally positive critical notices — even if it is the weakest of the trilogy according to Rotten Tomatoes. For the many MCU lovers out there that adored the cosmic threequel, though, writer/director James Gunn has some news for you that might disappoint.

As it turns out, Disney isn’t in a hurry to release Guardians 3 on digital, although there’s a very good reason for that. When asked by a fan if there was a video-on-demand release for the film already locked in on Bluesky (which, by the way, is the perfect social media platform for the man who put the song “Mr. Blue Sky” in Guardians 2), Gunn explained why it will be a while before the team’s final outing will be available to watch at home:

“There is not. We’ve been doing so well in theaters week after week it might be a little bit.”

On the one hand, it’s somewhat frustrating to here we should expect to be in for the haul long when it comes to Guardians 3‘s digital release. Still, supporters of the film should be fully on board with the decision as it gives Gunn’s last MCU outing the chance to earn even more cash at the box office and edge ever closer to that $1 billion bracket. Although the fact it’s VOD release is so far away means that it could be an age before it hits streaming on Disney Plus.

All in all, those who want to see it again should go catch Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 on the big screen while they still can.
