The cameras, they are a-rolling on the Burbank set of It: Chapter Two. And Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have today posted a behind-the-scenes shot of the adult Losers’ Club poring over what can only be the sequel’s script – a script penned by Gary Dauberman (It, Annabelle: Creation), based on the Stephen King classic.
Truth be told, this official announcement comes after a full fortnight of teases and cute set photos from Dark Phoenix duo James McAvoy and Jessica Chastain, who are about to confront Pennywise the Dancing Clown as Bill and Beverly, respectively.
They won’t do so alone, of course; as you’ll see from today’s table read, McAvoy and Chastain will be flanked by Bill Hader as Richie, Isaiah Mustafa (Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments) as Mike, Jay Ryan as Ben, James Ransone as Eddie, and Andy Bean as the adult Stanley. Their mission? To honor their childhood blood oath and defeat the evil that’s returned to haunt Derry, Maine.
And as if that cast wasn’t impressive enough, we’re since learned that Andy Muschietti and his team plan to bring back the original stars (see: Jaeden Lieberher, Sophia Lillis and Stranger Things‘ Finn Wolfhard) for Chapter Two as well, all but confirming the use of flashbacks.
That’s not all that surprising; after all, Stephen King’s novel classic was celebrated for the ways in which it handled the 27-year interlude between one generation and the next, so it’s only fitting that Muschietti uses some of that material to flesh out the sequel’s narrative – including one of the book’s most gruesome scenes.
It: Chapter Two will claw its way into theaters on September 5th, 2019, and only then will the Losers’ Club have the chance to banish Pennywise (AKA the Eater of Worlds) once and for all.
