You have to hand it to the video editors over at Lucasfilm.
Coming off the back of The Last Jedi‘s initial reveal in April, the Star Wars community began drafting up weird and wonderful fan theories concerning Luke Skywalker, Supreme Leader Snoke, and everyone in between. That fandom subsided over the summer months, but a number of big questions – Rey’s parentage, Snoke’s true origin…to name but two – continued to loom.
And so, back when Lucasfilm unleashed a full-length trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the franchise’s legions of fans were expecting one or two answers; instead, they were left poring over a multitude of brand new questions. And if there’s one shot that caught the imagination of Star Wars diehards the world over, it’s the scene in which Rey is literally paralyzed by Supreme Leader Snoke.
Entangled in some form of Force-related trap, we imagine that scene takes place toward The Last Jedi‘s finale. Indeed, while promoting her involvement in Fox thriller Murder On the Orient Express, Daisy Ridley (Rey) offered some new insight into that grueling moment.
He looks mental. Snoke is an evil guy, if you can call him a guy. It was painful. My throat hurt after that one… Snoke is one of those tests for Rey. And when I say testing, it’s the worst use of testing ever.
Testing, you say? Perhaps the scene Ridley is referring to sees Snoke trying to determine the extent of Rey’s Jedi abilities? If true, it would certainly fuel those rumors of the Jakku orphan falling prey to the dark side.
And though that may be true, one thing is for sure: Luke Skywalker isn’t all that pleased about her arrival on Ahch-To, as Daisy Ridley tells USA Today:
She thinks there’s going to be a warm welcome. But Luke went to this island to get away and he doesn’t want to be disturbed.
In fact, she’s so focused on her end-goal that she overlooks those pint-sized porgs, which are on the verge of becoming the must-have merchandise item of Christmas 2017.
Rey, honestly, is too wrapped up in her own journey to pay attention to porgs. Which is a sad thing.
Sad, indeed. Star Wars: The Last Jedi will make a beeline for theaters on December 15th which can only mean one thing: the one-month countdown has officially begun.
