Iron Man 3 hasn’t opened in North America yet, but it’s already playing in 42 international territories overseas and this past weekend, it took in an astonishing $195.3 million, which beat out the $185.1 million that The Avengers took in during its first international weekend. Pretty impressive, eh?
So far, the film has earned terrific reviews from critics, including one from our very own Paul McNamee. I recently saw the film at a press screening this past week and I must say, the reviews are correct. This is Marvel’s best film yet and I can’t wait to see it again when it opens up in theatres here in North America. Shane Black and Robert Downey Jr. seriously hit it out of the park with this one and if Iron Man 2 left a bitter taste in your mouth, you’ll be very pleased with what’s on display here.
The film has already set opening weekend records in Argentina, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Vietnam, Taiwan, the Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore. It earned the “second-biggest opening weekend of all time in Brazil and the biggest April opening ever in Italy.” When the film opens up in North America on May 3rd, you can expect it to smash even more records. It doesn’t look like Iron Man 3 will be slowing down anytime soon as it’s all set to make a TON of money for the studio.
The Avengers pulled in roughly $200 million during its opening weekend in the US and Iron Man 3 looks poised to reach those same heights, if not surpass them. Marvel has done an excellent job at marketing the film and as I mentioned above, I can assure you that if you’re a fan of the studio’s most famous Avenger, you’ll be in for a real treat.
