After wow-ing audiences with her breakout role in Martha Marcy May Marlene, budding young actress Elizabeth Olsen is finally moving into some lighter fare with her new film Liberal Arts.
Co-starring alongside How I Met Your Mother star Josh Radnor, Olsen brings us another fantastic and wholly enjoyable performance, showing us that she truly is a star on the rise.
Recently, we sat down and talked briefly with Olsen about the film. She discusses what attracted her to the project, some of her upcoming films, how her career has taken off and more.
Check it out below.
We Got This Covered: What attracted you to the film in the first place?
Elizabeth Olsen: I just got off doing my third psychological thriller and there’s something really nice about playing a girl who feels just a bit older than her years and is really excited about learning and living life. I also really liked the way Josh wrote her dialogue. It was a very sweet story too and just a nice change from my previous films.
We Got This Covered: Were you familiar with Josh’s work when he approached you to do the film?
Elizabeth Olsen: I was, I had seen Happythankyoumoreplease, which I really enjoyed.
We Got This Covered: You must have been pretty excited when you got offered the role then?
Elizabeth Olsen: He auditioned me actually and what our audition consisted of was reading through every single scene in the movie for an hour. It was a lot of fun though to just sit on the floor and read through the scenes with him.
We Got This Covered: The ending of the film, was that always the original ending?
Elizabeth Olsen: Yes, that was always the ending. I’m happy with it though, it’s supposed to be that way because the characters grow to be ok with where they are. That’s what I get out of the script at least, that the hardest thing is to be ok with where you are and not try to rush things or go back to things. You have to realize that you can become happy with the place in life that you’re currently in.
