After an insanely strong showing at San Diego Comic-Con, which saw the sinister symbiote feature drop a brand spanking new teaser – that felt more like a sizzle reel than a trailer, if we’re being honest – and reveal the secret identity of Riz Ahmed’s genius inventor, Carlton Drake, Sony made good on their word and finally unleashed the third, and believed to be final, preview for Ruben Fleischer’s Venom yesterday.
Although the trailer was accompanied by the brilliant tagline, “The World Has Enough Superheroes,” and featured some undeniably badass footage, not everyone’s sold on Venom just yet. Citing uninspired dialogue and questionable CGI, the reaction to this latest teaser was, shall we say, mixed.
Thankfully, then, an international trailer for Venom premiered online shortly after – which you can check out above – and while it can’t help but keep much of the original teaser intact, this “new” preview does contain some never before seen footage, including a snippet of the titular antihero attacking a few policemen. Enjoy!
Granted, there isn’t much to distinguish this international preview from its domestic counterpart, but one can’t help but notice that the new look does flow significantly better than what we got stateside. Also, depending on your point of view, the infamous head biting scene, which, I suppose, we did get in some form toward the end, is completely removed.
Starring Tom Hardy, Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams and Woody Harrelson, look for Venom – which will draw inspiration from the Lethal Protector and Planet of the Symbiotes comic book series, in which five symbiotes battle Eddie Brock, thereby lending credence to director Ruben Fleischer’s “there may or may not be other villains” remark – to invade your local multiplex on October 5th.
