After a bit of a delay, it looks like the debut film from Michael Mann’s daughter, Ami Canaan Mann, will be released. Thanks to the folks over at Dread Central, we have our first look at the crime thriller, The Texas Killing Fields, which stars Sam Worthington, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chloe Moretz, Jessica Chastain and Stephen Graham.
Judging from the international trailer, Ami seems to certainly be influenced by her father in terms of cinematography and use of the digital camera. That being said, it’s hard to really form a solid opinion from this trailer alone, as it’s not in English.
From what we can gather though, it definitely looks pretty interesting. Anything with Chloe Moretz is worth watching and from some of the visuals in the trailer, the film looks like it will be effectively unsettling with some great mood and atmosphere.
The Texas Killing Fields is scheduled to open in October at the Venice Film Festival.
“This tense and haunting thriller follows a local homicide detective (Sam Worthington) in a small Texas town and his partner, a transplanted cop from New York City (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), as they track a sadistic serial killer dumping his victims’ mutilated bodies in a nearby marsh locals call “The Killing Fields”.
The killer changes the game and begins hunting the detectives, teasing them with possible clues at the crime scenes while always remaining one step ahead. When a familiar local girl, Anne (Chloe Grace Moretz), goes missing, the detectives find themselves in a race against time to find the killer and save her life.”
