Ready for a history lesson on Paramount’s longstanding IMAX partnership for Transformers? In anticipation of Transformers: The Last Knight, a new featurette has stormed online today and its purpose is two-fold: to reflect on how the lucrative franchise has informed the IMAX brand, and vice versa, along with teasing the blockbuster action that awaits in next year’s The Last Knight.
Confirming what many have already assumed to be common knowledge, in the snippet above you’ll see a couple of action shots pulled from the sequel’s historic sequence, in which Liam Garrigan will take up arms as King Arthur himself. The reason behind The Last Knight‘s jaunt back in time is said to involve Optimus Prime and his hunt for a mysterious artefact, one which seemingly holds the power to restore Cybertron to its former glory. Beyond that inkling, not much is known about the actual story of Michael Bay’s tentpole sequel, but with the first teaser expected to drop soon, we ought to have a better understanding of what to expect before the year’s end.
Bringing together old faces and new, Transformers: The Last Knight features a cast headlined by Mark Wahlberg, who’s back as Cade Yeager. Elsewhere, there are also roles for Stanley Tucci, Isabela Moner, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, John Turturro, Anthony Hopkins and Mitch Pileggi.
Transformers: The Last Knight is booked in for release on June 23, 2017. It’s the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the franchise, too, what with both a Bumblebee-centric spinoff earmarked for June 8, 2018, before Paramount courts viewers back to the core timeline with a sixth mainline installment on June 28, 2019.
