We’re still almost a year away until Guillermo del Toro’s futuristic monster epic Pacific Rim hits the big screen, but thanks to Empire you can check out some new images from the film’s production below. While not very revealing, they do give us a better look at the style of the film and also a good look at stars Charlie Hunnam and Idris Elba in their Jaeger operator suits.
In the film, a former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) are paired together to operate a legendary Jaeger, a massive robot created to fight monstrous creatures known as Kaiju, which started waging war on humanity from the sea years ago. With humanity on the verge of defeat, the unlikely pair are mankind’s last hope for survival.
I’ve been looking forward to seeing this for quite a while now and so far I don’t think I’ll be disappointed when it hits theaters. From the images below, it seems that the film’s style will be rather reminiscent of Blade Runner and grittier than most science fiction films. A trailer should be coming our way in a few months too so hopefully we’ll catch our first look at a Jaeger in action.
Scheduled to be released on July 12th, 2013, the film also stars Ron Perlman, Charlie Day and Clifton Collins Jr.
