Hollywood loves jumping on a craze and then pulverizing it into oblivion as fast as humanly possible, but it’s hardly encouraging that one of the most recent was ignited by a movie that’s been deemed one of the worst of all-time. Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey has a lot to answer for, and the repercussions are already being felt.
As well as Bambi: The Reckoning entering development to turn the adorable deer into a violent killing machine, and Sleeping Beauty’s Massacre is also on the cards for reasons that defy common sense. If that still wasn’t enough, there are no less than two competing slasher flicks based on Cinderella in the works at the same time, because that’s precisely what the world needs.
It was only a ago that Cinderella’s Curse was proudly unveiled as the latest blood-soaked reimagining of a fairytale that nobody was asking for, and it’s now been joined by Cinderella’s Revenge. The titles are almost identical, and it would be hard to imagine the content is going to be all that different, either, so it begs the question as to why the hell we need two of them.
There will be glass slippers, evil sisters, wicked stepmothers, and probably something extremely strange involving a combination of the three, but based on Blood and Honey being welcomed by both Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb as one of the worst abominations cinema has ever had to offer, hopes and expectations should be raised – or lowered – to a suitable level.
It’s the most tedious thing to happen to horror in a long time, but it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, which is just great.
