‘I’d be lucky to play him again’: Tom Holland isn’t fooling anyone with ‘Spider-Man 4’ dodges, especially when he needs a hit

Is he trying to channel the spirit of Andrew Garfield or something?

You could bet all of your earthly possessions and your home on the chances of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man 4 happening sooner rather than later and feel pretty confident about the odds, even if Tom Holland is doing his best to channel the spirit of Andrew Garfield.

As one of the most iconic figures in all of popular culture and Sony’s single biggest cash cow bar none, the chances of the actor not slipping back into the spandex for at least one more solo adventure have got to be deemed somewhere between supremely slim and absolute zero, especially when he’s in dire need of a hit.

Unfortunately, the majority of Holland’s non-Marvel projects have more often than not tended to come up short either at the box office or with critics, and in some cases both. So, when he refused to be too definitive in an interview with ScreenRant about his future and what villains he’d love to face, it instantly became hard to buy into what he’s selling.

“That’s a really tough question. I mean, Spider-Man has got arguably some of the best villains in the comic book world. I love the character. I love Spider-Man. I’d be lucky to play him again. But we’ll have to wait and see.”

Not to pull a page directly out of Kevin Feige’s playbook, but “Tom Holland Will Return.” It’s one of the surest things superhero cinema has to offer, even if the writers’ strike has slowed down development on the inevitable sequel for the time being.
