We’ve still got quite a bit of time to go until The Wolverine 3 hits theatres. In 2017 though, Hugh Jackman will portray the titular mutant one final time and already fans are giddy with anticipation at the prospect of seeing what the actor has in store for them. So far, we know that director James Mangold will be back behind the camera, and it was recently confirmed that Patrick Stewart will be making an appearance, too.
As for plot details, the film is apparently going to look to the Old Man Logan comic arc for inspiration. Which, for those who don’t know, is a fairly well-loved comic-book arc by Mark Millar and artist Steve McIven that many have been hoping to see adapted for some time. In it, Logan has survived the extinction of the X-Men and is living out his final days with a loving family in a landscape ruled over by territorial supervillains. Though he has renounced the Wolverine, Logan is forced to once again extend his claws when something horrific happens (no spoilers), leading him down a dark road in an unfamiliar world.
[zergpaid]Anyways, earlier this week during an appearance on the Sydney Confidential podcast, Jackman opened up a bit about what he’s been hearing from the fans in terms of what they want for the sequel, and teased a couple of things that we might see.
“There were a lot of calls for Victor Creed to come back, there was… I must admit I was quite heartened by a number of people saying please don’t make it the last, but I’m really excited about this last one, and if you’re a comic book fan, then the words ‘berserker rage’ came up a lot, so if you know Wolverine, you’ll understand.”
While it would be great to see both Creed and Wolvie’s Berserker Rage mode make an appearance in the film, it’s still too early to say for sure whether or not we’ll get either. Personally, I would most like to see the former, as we’ve had teases of it throughout the franchise but have never seen it full on.
For those who don’t know, Berserker Rage is when Wolverine “lashes out with the intensity and aggression of an enraged animal and is even more resistant to psionic attack.” Considering this is Jackman’s last time playing the iconic character, I definitely think fans would appreciate getting to see him go a little mental.
Hopefully it won’t be much longer before we start getting some concrete details on the film, but util we do, tell us, what are you hoping to see when The Wolverine 3 hits theatres?
