A rumor broke last week that Australian actor Hugh Jackman had been offered a whopping $100 million dollars to reprise his role as Wolverine for 4 more films, getting many fans excited about the possibilities of seeing the man who has become so closely tied to the character continue on for the foreseeable future. Unfortunately for those fans, when Jackman was asked about those rumors in a recent interview he made quick work of dismissing them, and any certainty of seeing him in the role past X-Men: Days Of Future Past.
Jackman not only shot down the rumor, but he also said he has yet to see a good reason for returning to the role beyond the film that is currently in production. Check out what he had to say below.
No it’s not true. I would never do that. I’ve never done that mainly because, for the fans and for me, each time I’ve gone around there’s been a really good reason to do it and I don’t know what that reason is from here. I’m in the middle of making this and I just promoted the other and I’m really happy with the way The Wolverine came out.
While I am a huge fan of Jackman, Wolverine, and Jackman as Wolverine, I don’t know that a four film deal would be best for the character. Jackman is currently 44 and soon to be 45. That means by the time the last film of that deal began shooting, he’d likely be at least 55, probably closer to 57. He looked more jacked and more menacing than ever in The Wolverine but I’m not sure that anyone can keep up that level of fitness into their late 50s. It’d be a shame for Jackman to sign on and then get too old to properly play the character.
That being said, I certainly hope he isn’t done after Days Of Future Past. The Wolverine was his best portrayal of the character yet, and he’s obviously growing as an actor in general. Being able to see him one or two times more as Logan is something I’m definitely hoping for, but as always, I’d rather see him stop too soon rather than too late.
