With the DCU’s The Flash right around the corner, it’s time to secure your tickets, block off your calendar, and plop your tushie into the nearest movie theater seat as you dive headfirst (not literally) into a giant bucket of delicious, buttery popcorn.
But not just any old popcorn — please! We all know it tastes better when it’s fished out of a special edition popcorn bucket that matches the very movie you’re seeing. AMC Theaters is typically the theater that comes to mind when discussing these kinds of special edition movie merch, but as you’ll see, it’s not the only theater chain that sells it.
Plus, there is more than one type of popcorn bucket. If you’re fast enough (see what we did there), you can secure yours before it runs out.
The different types of The Flash popcorn buckets
Since AMC is the largest theater chain in North America, we’ll start with that one. As you can see, The Flash popcorn bucket is a little less exotic than some other ones (such as Transformers: Rise of the Beasts). It is, at its core, just a bucket. But it’s also more than that.
In addition to The Flash’s trademark symbols and lightning bolts running the surface of the bucket, the thing also lights up. It may not be as inventive as the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 popcorn bucket, but at least you won’t feel too ridiculous reusing it for, say, the Barbie movie.
At Cinemark in the U.S., you can purchase two types of popcorn buckets. One is a tin that flips open with the animated version of Barry Allen on the front. It runs $20 for just the bucket or $24 with popcorn.
The other bucket you can buy at Cinemark is a gold interior tin with the logo of The Flash on one side and Barry Allen’s red suit on the other.
If you reside in Mexico and truly do want to be among the brave and the bold (see what we did there) you can head to your local Cinépolis for a matching Barry Allen torso and lighting cup. Yes, we said torso.
So, how do you get The Flash popcorn bucket?
Well, it’s actually quite simple. See, all you have to do is head on over to your local AMC, (or Cinemark, Regal Cinemas, Cineworld, Odeon, Cineplex, or Cinépolis), stand in line, kindly ask an employee if they still have said popcorn buckets in stock, and fork over the cash. That’s it!
These state-of-the-art popcorn buckets go on sale as soon as the movie releases in theaters so that means you can fish your popcorn out of Barry Allen’s torso or roll your hand around some lighting bolts as early as Thursday, March 15, as theaters now participate in “evening premieres” instead of “midnight premieres.” The price for these buckets typically runs around $20 to $25 in the U.S. and £12 to £15 in the U.K.
If you don’t happen to get your hands on these treasures before the rest of the population swoops them up, try seeing if it’s available on eBay.
The Flash officially bolts into theaters on Friday, June 16.
