By now, almost everyone has seen The Dark Knight Rises, but not everyone agrees with how it ended. Now, courtesy of /Film, we have the How It Should Have Ended team’s take on the movie’s ending and, as expected, it’s hilarious and spot-on.
For those unfamiliar with How It Should Have Ended, it’s a site that specializes in making animated alternate endings for popular films. Their videos often feature silly slapstick humor and point out many movie plot holes. The animations shouldn’t be taken too seriously but are nonetheless worth the watch, if only to catch some of the inconsistencies you missed during an actual movie showing.
Not surprisingly, this new video on The Dark Knight Rises is a gem. (Spoiler alert!) Featured – and altered – scenes include the Batman vs. Bane showdown, Talia al Ghul’s death, and the nuclear reactor crisis.
The parody addresses some of my concerns with the plot of The Dark Knight Rises, but does so in a fun and lighthearted manner. That being said, the conclusion to Nolan’s fantastic Batman trilogy is still my favorite film of the year so far. As much as I agree with much of the subtle criticism in the video, I still found the movie’s actual ending to be very emotionally satisfying.
Then again, I think a big part of pop culture experience in general, and the movie-going experience in particular, is being able to make fun of what you like. Hence why I’m a big fan of How It Should Have Ended.
