In terms of new releases, it’s been a busy month, and as we move into July, it seems like horror fans have a lot to look forward to. Hot off the heels of Child’s Play and Annabelle Comes Home, there’s plenty in store for those who prefer to be both spooked and creeped out by their preferred form of entertainment.
Rather than having to slog through article after article to find out what’s on the horizon though, we’ve gone ahead and compiled a few upcoming releases to keep your eye on. Enjoy!
- Despite a second season that managed to make up for the disappointing first batch of episodes, MTV’s Scream reboot seemed destined for cancellation after the decline in ratings became too much to ignore. It comes as a bit of a surprise that the show is returning for six more episodes then, which will air on an entirely different network (VH1) with an all-new cast and storyline to boot. The aptly-named Scream: Resurrection will run from July 8th through the 10th.
- Hereditary director Ari Aster seems to have avoided the dreaded sophomore slump with Midsommar, a decidedly brighter horror film that follows a group of friends as they participate in a series of bizarre and seriously disturbing summer solstice festivities. The latest trailer sure gave us a scare, and we can’t wait to check it out for ourselves when it hits theaters on July 3rd.
- When it comes to Netflix Originals, Stranger Things takes the cake in terms of fan hype and anticipation. Longtime viewers have been eagerly waiting to see what’s in store for our favorite residents of Hawkins, Indiana, and it looks like the newest batch of episodes are much gorier and darker than the rest. Season 3 will premiere on July 4th.
- If animal attacks are more your thing, you should keep your eye on Alexandre Aja And Sam Raimi’s Crawl, which pits a father and daughter duo against a deadly congregation of alligators down in Florida. This disaster survival film comes to the big screen on July 12th.
- While it’s not a horror game per se, MachineGames and Arkane Studios are working on a new, co-op focused Wolfenstein experience, and if the 2014 reboot is anything to go by, there’s a chance we’ll face off against a few creepy animals, and some terrifying Nazis. Wolfenstein: Youngblood hits store shelves on July 26th, for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
Needless to say, there’s plenty to look forward to next month, and we can’t wait to check out all of these new releases for ourselves.
