A surprisingly healthy debate.

An anti-streaming message from director Parker Finn and star Sosie Bacon from the hit movie Smile has some people annoyed over its perceived intent. One viewer even revealed that people audibly booed it when it was played.

Over on the subreddit r/horror, user TroTex15 pointed out that it was in “poor taste.”

User EnemyRonus shared the irony that Smile was supposed to be a streamer until it did incredibly well in test screenings.

Someone else pointed out that Bacon probably meant legal streaming.

User MoshZombie said that actually, the message actually wasn’t that bad.

One of the issues seems to be that that people generally don’t like to be told what to do. Almighty_Push91 compared streaming to back when the TV came out.

This of course started a debate about whether those two things (streaming and the advent of television) were even comparable. One user said it was more about the revenue stream than anything else.

If that’s the case, replied Almighty_Push91, then shouldn’t the movie experience be a lot better than the home one?

That’s not a bad point nobody seems to clean up after themselves or respect the sanctity of the theater, but isn’t that kind of the point? User BigLorry doesn’t seem to think so.

This started people on whether it was worth going to the theater at all because of all of that. User Hereslookingatmekid said that they “really only go during the weekday matinee because people do NOT know how to act on weekends and nights.”

There’s also another issue: “Not to mention insane concession prices. If I really like a film I buy it on dvd [sic] and that’s support enough,” said gothism.

A surprisingly healthy debate for a topic that could easily debase into something contentious. User ScrapMetalDrone summed it up nicely:
