Can Warner Bros. get lightning to strike twice for Horrible Bosses 2, a comedy sequel which catches audiences back up with Nick (Jason Bateman), Dale (Charlie Day) and Kurt (Jason Sudeikis) sometime after their somewhat successful scheme to knock off their higher-ups? If the first trailer for the movie, slated for release later this year, is any indication, the studio is banking more on audiences simply wanting to see more of Horrible Bosses‘ stacked cast than on a worthy plot.
Still, the results in this first preview are quite funny. In addition to Nick, Dale and Kurt, Horrible Bosses 2 features returns by randy dentist Julia Harris (Jennifer Aniston), murderous and now imprisoned former boss David Harkin (Kevin Spacey) and even faux-badass Dean “Motherfucker” Jones (Jamie Foxx). This time around, the main trio have started their own business but find themselves hoodwinked out of it by a slick investor (Christoph Waltz). Seeking revenge, they hatch a half-brained scheme to kidnap the investor’s son (Chris Pine), only to find themselves in way over their heads.
Sean Anders (That’s My Boy) directs from a script he co-wrote with John Francis Daley, Jonathan Goldstein and John Morris. Daley and Goldstein co-wrote the first movie with Michael Markowitz, so hopefully their involvement will help Horrible Bosses 2 feel more like an actual sequel than a blatant money-grabbing attempt by Warner Bros. Which it is – but that doesn’t mean it also can’t be side-splittingly funny as well.
Horrible Bosses 2 will open on November 24th.
Fed up with answering to higher-ups, Nick, Dale and Kurt decide to become their own bosses by launching their own business in “Horrible Bosses 2.” But a slick investor soon pulls the rug out from under them. Outplayed and desperate, and with no legal recourse, the three would-be entrepreneurs hatch a misguided plan to kidnap the investor’s adult son and ransom him to regain control of their company.
