When it comes to Star Wars: The Last Jedi, it seems that you can’t go more than a day or two without a new rumor hitting the web. That’s especially true in recent weeks, as we inch closer to not only the film’s release, but also its first trailer, which will be shown at Star Wars Celebration in April. Given that we’ve seen next to nothing from the Rian Johnson-helmed movie yet, the upcoming trailer is a massive deal and already, speculation in regards to what we may get from it has been kicked into overdrive.
Now, fuelling the hype train even more is YouTube user Mike Zeroh, who just earlier brought us some interesting news on Benicio del Toro’s mysterious character. This time around, however, he’s got a scoop on the trailer, as he believes he knows what it’ll show off. It’s important to take this with a grain of salt, as this guy has been wrong in the past, but he’s also been correct a number of times. As such, we’ll leave it up to you to decide if there’s any truth to what he’s saying here.
According to Zeroh, the first teaser for Star Wars: The Last Jedi will follow in the footsteps of the one that we saw for The Force Awakens, in that it’ll open on Finn. This time around, however, he’ll be in a bit of a different setting. Here’s how the folks at /Film break it down:
Finn appears in a stir, breathing heavily, waking up in a medical bay, which is where we left him at the end of The Force Awakens. We don’t know if this is a fake description or not, but that would be a cool way to start this first teaser..
From there, we get a shot of Poe Dameron coming through a sliding door on a ship, saying something along the lines of, “They’re almost here.” The room supposedly shakes and the Rebel pilot looks concerned. This is followed by a completely different scene of a funeral procession walking through a huge city before a character in dark clothing draws a blaster and fires it at someone in the procession.
Then Poe is seen with Finn and the Rebel character played by Kelly Marie Tran, and they’re all dressed like First Order officers. This lines up with rumors we heard previously, which could either be because the description is accurate, or because they took cues from other rumors online and used them to put together this trailer description.
Another shot features Captain Phasma leading a group of Stormtroopers, with the description adding that they look a little different, but also admitting that could be a misconception. Phasma tells the Troopers to “Find them,” and it appears to take place in the same city of the funeral processions. Stormtroopers fire all over, causing commotion all over.
There’s shot of General Leia who says “Their shadow is growing,” followed by a shot of Supreme Leader Snoke stepping out of the darkness. This supposedly isn’t a visual effect, but a practical one, with the character standing 8 feet tall, towering over General Hux who can’t bring himself to make eye contact with him. Snoke asks, “Is he alive?” to which Hux answers, “Barely.” Snoke responds, “Good. The time has come for a family reunion.” The description says this is a paraphrase, but this is the gist of the line.
Finn barges into a meeting that Leia and her advisers are having and says, “They’re back,” with the General being not surprised by this revelation. Finn reacts and says, “You knew,” with Leia saying, “I felt it.” Then the Millennium Falcon flies out from waves into the sky, followed by TIE Fighters flying through space.
Finally, a Stormtrooper runs out of an alley in the aforementioned city, with several others following him afterwards. They meet Captain Phasma, to which one of the troopers says, “It’s the Jedi.” Phasma stays while the other troopers run. A lightsaber ignition is heard, a blue light reflects off of Phasma’s helmet. The trailer cuts black and Luke says, “Everything will die with us.”
Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like Luke will be involved here, though there will apparently be a different teaser shown to those in attendance at Star Wars Celebration which might include Mr. Skywalker. Again though, nothing’s been confirmed just yet and honestly, we’re not sure how much faith we have in Zeroh when it comes to this particular scoop.
Sure, some of what he’s described sounds plausible, but we can’t imagine Disney not showing Luke at all, as so much of The Last Jedi will undoubtedly center around him. /Film also points out the absence of Rey, which again, is odd given her role as one of the main characters. Perhaps the studio is just saving her and Skywalker for the next trailer, but still, it’d be a huge disappointment if we didn’t catch at least a glimpse of either of them in this first look at what’s no doubt one of 2017’s most anticipated movies.
A lot of this also contradicts earlier rumors, which pointed to all of the main players being included in the first trailer. Then again, perhaps that report is false? Right now, there’s just no way to know for sure and all we can do is continue to mull over all this as we patiently await for Celebration to kick off in April. It’s only two months away, but given how excited we all are to get our first glimpse of the film, it certainly seems a lot further away than that, doesn’t it?
