Henry Cavill, core Justice League member and arguably one of the greatest on-screen superheroes to date, is ostensibly finished with Superman.
That’s the news that threatened to bring the Internet to a standstill earlier this morning, when The Hollywood Reporter dropped the bombshell that Cavill is no longer attached to the Man of Steel, leading Warner Bros. to fast-track its Supergirl origin movie all the while keeping a close eye on Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther, Fantastic Four), who is reportedly an early frontrunner to pick up the cape and spandex.
It’d certainly make for an interesting change of pace, though it seems the next standalone Superman movie is years down the line at this point, which, frankly, isn’t all that surprising.
However, closer to home, the Internet is still reeling from the news that Henry Cavill and DC Films are about to go their separate ways, with a number of Twitter users even comparing Warner’s decision to cut ties with Cavill to the infamous Thanos snap of Avengers: Infinity War.
Henry Cavill isn't Superman anymore.

It’d be hilarious if Marvel got Henry Cavill for Captain Britain in the MCU.

The Thanos snap got so much reach it’s starting to affect the multiverse. pic.twitter.com/hRCxn7G5xW

Ah, damn. I liked Cavill as Superman, but his material certainly wasn’t great. After this, and with Affleck one foot out the door on Batman, I’ll say once again:
Scrap the DCEU. Start over. Gal Gadot’s ‘Wonder Woman’ should be left canon, then just build the universe around her. https://t.co/RUg9evYFea

WB just got rid of the one guy who genuinely loved playing his character and wanted to see it be done the best way possible and they kicked him to the curb to make 20 Batman, Joker, & Harley films
I’m not a huge fan of MoS, BvS, or JL but I love Cavill’s Superman pic.twitter.com/SqK8Ec2IZP

A very brash and vocal minority of Redditors have even gone so far as to claim that The Hollywood Reporter isn’t to be trusted – you know, despite it being one of the biggest and most respected trades in the movie business.
Be that as it may, Dany Garcia, who works as a publicist for Henry Cavill, took to Twitter to offer a glimmer of hope. She also called for calm, and told DC fans the world over to expect an official statement from Warner Bros. later today.

No sign of that WB statement at the time of writing, but we’ll be keeping a close eye on this Superman saga as it begins to unfurl.
