Kids may think that they hear something outside their door, or that there’s something hiding beneath their bed, but unless you’re playing a part in a horror movie, those trepidations hardly ever realize themselves.
Well, one couple decided they wanted to live in a horror movie, or at least come close. And guess what? Not only have they been feeling the jeepers creepers, but they want to unleash them onto the public. Whether you believe in ghosts or not, if you believe in the power of filmmaking, you can make sense of those fears, given that what Cory and Jennifer Heinzen have decided to step foot into is none other than The Conjuring universe.
A few months ago, the married couple saw a listing online for the house that inspired James Wan’s 2013 film and immediately snatched it up. Now, they’re planning on fixing it up and opening the house – which they say is actually haunted – to anyone willing to step foot inside. What makes their story all the better is the fact that Cory’s been a paranormal investigator for about ten years, just like the Warren family that the wildly successful franchise is based around.
In a recent interview with MovieWeb, the Heinzens opened up about their plans and their experience so far with the Rhode Island home. Here’s what Cory had to say:
“I’ve always been fascinated with the Warrens. It’s just like a piece of paranormal history, this house. We had doors opening, footsteps, and knocks. I’ve had a hard time staying there by myself. I don’t have the feeling of anything evil, (but) it’s very busy. You can tell there’s a lot of things going on in the house.”
But despite these other, ghostly patrons, whom were probably not mentioned on the listing, the Heinzens adore the place.
“We immediately fell in love with it. Eight-and-a-half acres, a river in the back and a pond, it’s so serene down there, never mind the story behind the house, it’s a beautiful home. (Jennifer) honestly was more excited than I was, I think.”
That’s right: apparently Jennifer, who isn’t a paranormal investigator like her husband, is perfectly fine owning a house whose spirit count doesn’t only refer to alcohol.
“This whole journey has been both scary – for many reasons other than paranormal – and exciting all at once,” she explained. “I love that we have the opportunity to share the home with others.”
Well, at the very least, the Heinzens know that their conversion of the Harrisville home would bring joy to some other investigators, as well as fans of the film series. After all, the location’s been an unofficial attraction of the community for years – so much so that its previous owner, Norma Sutcliff, sued Warner Bros. back in 2015 because of all the trespassing that occurred. The best part? Cory was one of those unwelcome guests.
But anyways, as The Conjuring universe continues its campaign as one of horror’s most successful franchises – Annabelle Comes Home is in the middle of a lucrative run at the box office – we wish the Heinzens a safe, lawsuit-less journey as they corral people into their new happy, if haunted, home.
