According to Variety, director Todd Phillips (The Hangover) has secured the film rights to the Rolling Stone Magazine article entitled Arms and the Dudes. Phillips will produce, and may also direct, the film based on the article which tells the true story of two stoners from Miami Beach who became international arms dealers.

Written by Guy Lawson, Arms and the Dudes (which can be viewed online for free here) recounts the story of David Packouz and Efraim Diveroli, two dope-smoking young men from Miami Beach, who won a $300 million contract from the Pentagon to arm American allies in Afghanistan. The pair successfully made 85 munitions deliveries worth more than $66 million before federal agents arrested them and charged them with over 70 counts of fraud.

Phillips has had great success with The Hangover films and with a third film on the way it’s unclear how much time he’ll have to devote to this project. As he’s already directed both entries in the popular comedic franchise, it’s likely that he’ll direct the third film as well, so I doubt that we’ll see Arms and the Dudes on the big screen anytime soon.

What did you think of the article? Would you take a break from the comedic styles of The Hangover boys to see this on the big screen sooner?
