And so it begins.
Though Blumhouse and David Gordon Green are yet to unleash their Halloween sequel, the film’s co-writer, Danny McBride, has teased plans for a potential follow-up, one which presumably hinges on the success of October’s scarefest.
Yes, having wiped the slate clean, Green and McBride are game to launch a sequel to the yet-to-be-released sequel, allowing the Halloween continuity to branch off in a completely new direction.
Word comes by way of Entertainment Weekly, where McBride divulged the original plan for Blumhouse’s revival – early on in development, Halloween was almost split in two – before the actor-cum-screenwriter circled back to discuss what comes next for Michael Myers.
We were going to shoot two of them back-to-back. Then we were like, Well, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. This could come out, and everyone could hate us, and we’d never work again. So, let’s not have to sit around for a year while we wait for another movie to come out that we know people aren’t going to like. So, we were like, Let’s learn from this, and see what works, and what doesn’t.
He continued:
But we definitely have an idea of where we would go [with] this branch of the story and hopefully we get a chance to do it.
So at least for now, David Gordon Green and Danny McBride have their fingers crossed in the hope that Halloween sticks the landing – and at least based on Friday’s frightful first trailer, we’re inclined to believe that Green and his team are about to deliver on those sky-high expectations.
All will be revealed when Haddonfield swings its doors open to Myers and the Strode Family on October 19th.
