Survivor. Protector.
Two words one would typically ascribe to Laurie Strode, Jamie Lee Curtis’ scream queen who first crossed paths with Michael Myers back in 1978. Now, almost 40 years later, the masked killer is about to stage his second coming, and we couldn’t be more excited.
Fittingly, Blumhouse’s long-anticipated sequel has been slated to release this Halloween season, when John Carpenter’s original classic will be the toast of film fans all over the world. The horror master is also involved behind the scenes, having agreed to compose the soundtrack alongside his two trusted confidants.
That’ll certainly imbue Halloween with a sense of legacy, though it’s really the return of Jamie Lee Curtis that has people talking. Sure, we’ve seen other actresses take on the role of Laurie Strode (see: Scout Taylor-Compton), but few “final girls” compare to the great and powerful Curtis. She’s clearly relishing the chance to revisit Haddonfield, and has now shared a spooky portrait from the set alongside the following caption: “Set self portrait. Survivor. Protector. @halloweenmovie #HalloweenMovie.”

40 years have passed since Laurie’s first encounter with Michael Myers, and though Rob Zombie and his team whipped up their own character arc, the Halloween of 2018 is said to pick up where the John Carpenter classic left off, thereby ignoring all other installments in the hit slasher series.
It’s a retcon that has attracted a fair amount of controversy over the past 12 months, given some members of the Halloween alumni feel as though they’ve been shafted altogether. Be that as it may, it only clears the path for Laurie Strode to own the stage.
Halloween comes knocking on October 18th, and when it does, horror fans will be able to unwrap a spooky sequel that doubles down on dread, not gore.
