It was announced only a couple of weeks ago that Academy Award winner Christian Bale would star in another Untitled Terrence Malick film that was to shoot next year, making the second collaboration between the two, the first being The New World back in 2005.
Days later, news broke that Rooney Mara, Haley Bennett, Clemence Poesy, and Mia Wasikowska were all in the running to also star in the film. Now, Variety confirms that Haley Bennett is the front runner for the role.
Though no deal has been struck yet, she is apparently Malick’s favourite. Bennett, who is best know from a supporting role in Marley and Me, is a relatively unknown actress, not unlike Jessica Chastain was before being cast in The Tree Of Life.
It will be interesting to see that if Malick gets his choice, which I am almost sure he will, and if she will follow the same rise to stardom that has been thrusted onto Chastain over the past 12 months.
We also learnt through Nicholas Winding Refn, that Ryan Gosling had a part in the yet to be titled film. This would be another great career boost for Gosling, who is quickly becoming one of the worlds most sought after actors.
Malick’s next film, also untitled, though the rumoured title is The Burial, stars Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, Rachel Weisz, Javier Bardem, Michael Sheen, Jessica Chastain, Olga Kurylenko, Amanda Peet and Barry Pepper and is due for release in 2012.
