Earlier today, Sony and Marvel released a brand new trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming and so far, the response has been overwhelmingly positive. From some hilarious interactions between Peter and Tony to a few terrific action set pieces and even an extended look at Michael Keaton’s menacing Vulture, the preview delivered everything we were hoping to see and more, leaving us feeling very optimistic about the film.
That being said, there was still a lot that it left out, as director Jon Watts no doubt has a few surprises in store for us that he doesn’t want to spoil ahead of time. Among other things, there are sure to be some cameos from MCU actors that we aren’t expecting to see and if Lainey Gossip is to be believed, one of those may be Gwyneth Paltrow, who’s apparently set to make her return as Pepper Potts.
After being absent from the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2013’s Iron Man 3, fans were worried that they may never see her again. In fact, it was just in Civil War that Tony said they were on a break, so this is definitely unexpected news. Of course, she hasn’t been seen in either of the trailers and the studio has yet to confirm it, so treat Lainey Gossip’s report as a rumor for now until we get some kind of confirmation.
Unfortunately, there aren’t any details on how big of a role she might have here or even if her and Tony will be back together, but given that she’s been gone for so long now, fans will no doubt be happy to see Potts return, as Paltrow was always a welcome screen presence and had strong chemistry with Downey Jr. Here’s hoping that this report is on the level, then.
Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theatres on July 7th.
