Co-starring Carice Van Houten, Kit Harington and Dakota Fanning, Brimstone first bowed in Venice before screening in Toronto, and while there’s still no firm release date yet for North America, we’d expect it to debut sometime in early 2017. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long to see it, as judging by the footage we get above, it looks like an enjoyable Western that will please those looking for something a little more sinister.

Not only that, but we’ll also get to see Pearce channel his dark side, which he seems to be doing incredibly well as he hunts down Dakota Fanning’s Liz. All in all, Brimstone looks like a brutal, dark and visceral thriller with some gorgeous cinematography that might just give the genre the shot in the arm that it needs after the rather dull Magnificent Seven.

Admittedly, some of the early reviews haven’t been too kind to the film, but then again, this is the type of experience that probably isn’t for everyone. If you’re into it though, and eager for a harsh Western that appears to feature some really solid performance, then look for Brimstone to ride into theatres early next year.
