Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape Of Water Finds A Composer

Not much is known about The Shape of Water, the newest film from Guillermo del Toro. Plot details are being kept tightly under wraps, but from what we've heard it's an other-worldly adventure, one that finds Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Michael Stuhlbarg, Octavia Spencer and Doug Jones (duh) set against the backdrop of the Cold War. Today, we've learned one more small detail about the project: its score will be composed by Alexandre Desplat.

Not much is known about The Shape of Water, the newest film from Guillermo del Toro. Plot details are being kept tightly under wraps, but from what we’ve heard it’s an other-worldly adventure, one that finds Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Michael Stuhlbarg, Octavia Spencer and Doug Jones (duh) set against the backdrop of the Cold War. Today, we’ve learned one more small detail about the project: its score will be composed by Alexandre Desplat.

While Desplat’s name isn’t as well known as, say, John Williams, Hans Zimmer and Danny Elfman, he’s certainly just as prolific. The Oscar-winning composer is behind The King’s Speech, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Godzilla, Zero Dark Thirty, Argo and The Imitation Game, just to name a few, and The Shape of Water will mark Desplat’s first time working with del Toro. At least, his first time working on a project that GDT has directed.

The two previously collaborated on the Guillermo del Toro-produced Rise of the Guardians, as well as del Toro’s new Netflix series Trollhunters – which is earning excellent reviews so far. Hopefully this will be the start of a long, prosperous working relationship for the two.

Currently in post-production, it’s unclear when The Shape of Water will make its way into theatres, though it’s expected to arrive at some point in 2017. As always, we’ll keep you posted once we hear more.
