Guillermo del Toro Says Justice League Dark Will Tie Into DC Universe

Now that Marvel has proven to be tremendously successful with their Cinematic Universe, Warner Bros. seems to be emulating that formula with their upcoming Man of Steel sequel Batman vs. Superman. A new interview with director Guillermo del Toro seems to suggest, however, that their plans for the DC Universe are much deeper than we originally thought.

With del Toro currently developing a Justice League Dark film featuring, among others, Swamp Thing, John Constantine, Deadman and The Spectre, he hinted that Warner Bros. is trying to ensure that his film will fit into their overall plan:

We’re still on (Justice League Dark), writing, and hopefully it will happen but there are no developments that are new. It’s still at Warner Bros., they are making plans for the entire DC universe. All the superheroes, all the mythologies, and part of that is Justice League Dark. They’re planning on TV, movies, and all the media, so we have to fit into that plan.

With Marvel’s announcement that they’re working on four new Netflix original series based on members of the NY division of The Defenders (and potentially feature films provided that the series are a success), WB and DC seem to be looking to copy Marvel’s strategy whole cloth.

Frankly, del Toro is one of the few people in Hollywood that I would trust to help DC usher in this new era of cross promotion and inter-mingling of characters, so let’s hope his involvement runs a bit deeper than just developing Justice League Dark.

Whatever the plan may be, we’ll keep you up to date on the latest developments. In the meantime, let us know if you’re excited for DC’s universe that they’re building or if you’re sick and tired of all these superhero movies.
