One of the many questions heading into Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was how heavily one of the many post-credits scenes of the previous chapter would factor into the narrative, especially when questions were instantly raised over at least one of the members of Sylvester Stallone’s Ravagers team.
It was no secret that Stallone would be back as Stakar Ogord when he was one of the first names announced for the ensemble outside of the core crew, but Michelle Yeoh’s subsequent appearance in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings would have caused too much canonical confusion, so she was inevitably left out of the threequel.
Various trailers and TV spots have featured Michael Rosenbaum’s Martinex, but there doesn’t seem to be any room for Ving Rhames as Charlie-27. Then there’s the disembodied voice of Mainframe, which was provided by none other than Miley Cyrus in an uncredited cameo appearance, but is the pop superstar back in the thick of the action for Vol. 3?
According to the official press release unveiled by Marvel, the answer is a firm “no.” While Mainframe does get some time to shine in the final Guardians of the Galaxy adventure, it’s been confirmed that Cyrus has been replaced with voice acting legend and Marvel Cinematic Universe veteran Tara Strong, who brought Miss Minutes to unforgettable life in Loki.
It’s hardly an earth-shattering or game-changing swap, but it could signal Mainframe has a much bigger part to play in Vol. 3 if Cyrus found herself either unwilling or unable to commit to the recording booth for more than one line of dialogue.
