1) Baby Groot’s New Clothes
Just when we think the trailer is over, it gives us one last shot of the two characters sidelined in the rest of the teaser – probably the franchise’s flagship stars, Rocket and Groot. It’s only brief, but we see Rocket being the ferocious rodent he is and shooting down a skulking enemy – through a wall no less – with a super-powerful three-barreled gun. Then, from behind his shoulder, pops out teeny Baby Groot. After sacrificing himself to save his friends at the end of the first movie, Groot was reborn from one twig, and it seems he’s taking some time to grow back up again.
It’s also clear that the adorable Groot has now got a costume as well. The Comic-Con footage previously showed him donning the outfit when the Ravagers dressed him up for fun. Even cutthroat space pirates aren’t immune to Baby’s Groot’s charms it seems.
Less immediately noticeable is that Rocket has also had something of a wardrobe upgrade. As opposed to his orange suit from the first film, he’s here seen in a very similar blue version. Once again, this further recalls the source material. Rocket wore a blue outfit in the Guardians of the Galaxy comics from Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, upon which the movies are primarily based.
