The Berlin International Film Festival is now well underway and deals are being made all over the place. We’ve already told you about new projects for the likes of Tom Hanks, Oscar Isaac and Henry Cavill, among others, and now, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 star Dave Bautista has found his next film.
Deadline reports that the wrestler turned actor will board The Ink Factory’s Hotel Artemis, where he’ll star alongside Jodie Foster in the Drew Pearce-directed pic. From what we understand, it’s a future-set story, one that sees “Foster as a nurse who runs an underground hospital for Los Angeles’ most sinister criminals and finds that one of her patients is actually there to assassinate another.”
On casting Bautista, Pearce said the following earlier today:
“He’s a force to be reckoned with — a powerful presence who’s equal parts strength and soulfulness. I’m a true fan, and it’s a privilege to have him in the world of Hotel Artemis.”
While it’s a far cry from blockbusters like Guardians of the Galaxy and Spectre, this definitely sounds like an interesting project for the actor and one where he can further flex his chops. He’s a strong screen presence and audiences seem to love him, so his involvement definitely bodes well for Hotel Artemis – as does Drew Pearce’s.
Though this will mark his first time directing a feature film, he’s done some notable writing work (Iron Man 3, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation) throughout his career and we’re excited to see what he can do behind the camera. Especially when he’s got two strong talents in Foster and Bautista.
No word yet on when Hotel Artemis will check into production, but now that the main components are starting to come together, we imagine it won’t be long. As always, we’ll keep you posted.
