9) Will Groot Be Fully Grown Next Time?
Though James Gunn has said that the decision to keep Groot the size of a twig in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was purely based on the needs of the story, little Baby Groot has definitely been a gift to Marvel’s merchandising arm, as the cute little critter became a terrific mascot for the movie. He’s great value in the film, too, as Groot steals every scene he’s in – as expected.
But trees grow up so fast these days, and by one of the movie’s many post-credits scenes, Groot has reached what looks to be his teenage years. When we catch up with the Milano crew in the sequence, the character is shedding vines in his room and spending all day on his video games while Peter nags at him to clean up after himself.
It seems likely, then, that this scene is setting up the return of full-size Groot for the next time we see him. As much as we love Baby Groot, this is probably a clever move. After all, the next time he turns up in the MCU will likely be in Avengers: Infinity War, and adult Groot’s size and formidable fighting skills will be much-needed in the fight against Thanos.
