While Guardians of the Galaxy obviously occurs in the grand Marvel Universe, James Gunn’s film will not tie into Avengers: Age of Ultron directly. In fact, according to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, it will almost be its own film entirely. Despite being more of a stand-alone entry though, we can assume there still might be a few tie-ins with other future Marvel projects – most likely via a post credits scene. Or a post-post credits scene, as Marvel loves to do these days.
On that note, EW recently sat down with Gunn and he revealed to them that Guardians will tie into Avengers 3.
“[Guardians of the Galaxy] is definitely connected to Avengers 3,” said Gunn.
It’s not much to go on, but at least we have a clearer picture of how Guardians will fit into Marvel’s overall game plan. The film has always been a bit of an oddity, with many people unsure of how it will be connected to Thor, Iron Man or any of the other Avengers. Now, at least we have some idea of how they’ll all come together. Presumably, Thanos will be the main villain in Avengers 3 and that will be the link that brings the Guardians together with the Avengers. Or at least, that’s what it’s looking like.
In addition to that little nugget of information, we also have two new stills from the film to share with you today. Seen above is a team shot of the titular heroes wearing prison uniforms (they meet in jail), while below you can see Chris Pratt holding a strange orb and talking to Zoe Saldana.
Guardians of the Galaxy zooms into theatres on August 1st, 2014. Hopefully by then we’ll have a better idea of how this ragtag group of superheroes fit in with the overall Marvel Cinematic Universe.
