Today we have the second trailer for John Hillcoat‘s Lawless, which boasts an all-star cast containing names like Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf, Mia Wasikowska, Gary Oldman, Guy Pearce and Jessica Chastain. Set to hit theatres on August 29th, the film is shaping up really well, despite having a few production troubles along the way.
Through promo images and an initial trailer, it looks like Hillcoat is bringing his Dust Bowl-era America setting to life wonderfully, with impressive costumes and production design to boast.
The intensity and grittiness of Hillcoat’s previous films, namely The Proposition, comes across here too, with the promise of a no holds barred movie that won’t be afraid to go to some dark places.
Hillcoat and his wonderful production design/direction aside, the real star of the show here is that cast. And boy what a cast it is. Hardy and Oldman having a little post-Dark Knight Rises reunion will be more than enough to get me in theatres.
On top of that, we also have the always wonderful Guy Pearce, the troubled though still talented LaBeouf and the wonderful female actresses in Wasikowska and Chastain.
Lawless is shaping up to be a serious contender this year and it keeps looking better and better.
“Lawless is the true story of the infamous Bondurant Brothers: bootlegging siblings who made a run for the American Dream in Prohibition-era Virginia. In this epic gangster tale, inspired by true-life tales of author Matt Bondurant’s family in his novel The Wettest County in the World, the loyalty of three brothers is put to the test against the backdrop of the nation’s most notorious crime wave.”
