Set to Yippee-ki-yay its way into theatres on February 14th is A Good Day To Die Hard, the fifth instalment in the popular action series. With a total gross of $1.1 billion worldwide between the four films, a fifth one was a no brainer and now here we are, less than a month away from its release. Though the franchise has gone significantly downhill since the second film, seeing Bruce Willis back on the big screen as John McClane always makes for a fun ride. With that in mind, it’s time to start removing the skepticism surrounding A Good Day To Die Hard.
Many people sighed when a fifth Die Hard was announced, myself included. But over the past few months, I must admit, I’ve had a change of heart. Sure, it does look like just another Die Hard film but something about this one has me intrigued. It could be the addition of McClane’s son, played by Jai Courtney, or the fact that the film is moving the setting to Russia, but something about this film has me excited for Die Hard again. Besides, no matter how crummy it turns out, watching Bruce Willis kick-ass is never a bad experience.
Look, I’m not saying to expect something more than just another Die Hard film, I’m just saying that this might actually turn out to be a “good” Die Hard film. One that provokes memories of John McTiernan’s 1988 classic. That may be too much to ask for but for now, I’m remaining optimistic about this one.
Also starring Sebastian Koch, Yulia Snigir, Cole Hauser, Amaury Nolasco, Megalyn Echikunwoke and Anne Vyalitsyna, the film will open in IMAX and conventional theatres on February 14th, 2013.
