David Fincher’s upcoming adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s acclaimed bestseller, Gone Girl is one of our most anticipated films of the year. The thriller arrives in theaters on October 3rd and stars Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris and Tyler Perry. 20th Century Fox spent this past weekend slowly building up our anticipation for today’s trailer and now that it’s landed, we have our first real look at the film.
For those who haven’t read the novel, Gone Girl tells the story of Nick Dunne (Affleck), whose wife Amy (Pike) goes missing on their fifth wedding anniversary. What follows is a chilling mystery as the search for Amy begins, and Nick becomes the prime suspect.

Honestly, my first reaction to this trailer was confusion, as the music choice suggests a tone far different from anything we’ve ever seen from Fincher. However, as the trailer goes on, the music gets a bit more unsettling as it’s juxtaposed against the images of Amy’s disappearance and the investigation that proceeds it. The result is a truly haunting and enticing effect. Needless to say, my interest and excitement for Fincher’s new film has only increased since seeing the trailer, and I can’t wait to find out what he has in store for us.
Gone Girl hits theaters on October 3rd.
