Unfortunately, San Diego Comic-Con 2018 is drawing to a close now, but speaking strictly from a fan perspective, there isn’t much that the “largest convention of its kind in the world” didn’t deliver. Sure, it’d be nice if the Wonder Woman 1984 footage or new Venom clip could make their way online, but that’s just us getting greedy.
In all honesty, SDCC came through in spades, what with Shazam!, Aquaman and Godzilla: King of the Monsters all dropping their first trailer. Truthfully speaking, though, they don’t come much better than the latter.
During the now world-renowned Warner Bros. presentation in Hall H, the Big Six film studio unleashed the first trailer for the sequel and oh my, was it ever electrifying. Between Ghidorah, Mothra, Rodan and of course, Gojira himself, the teaser had it all. Apparently, though, WB wasn’t done releasing jaw-dropping ballyhoo.
Following the footage premiere, director Michael Dougherty took to Twitter and shared the Godzilla: King of the Monsters San Diego Comic-Con exclusive poster. Forged by the insanely talented Christopher Shy, the one-sheet, much like the film’s teaser, is an awe-inspiring work of art.
Featuring the titular, severely mutated dinosaur locked in the clutches of the three-headed dragon, King Ghidorah, the poster, accompanied by the text overlay, “long live the king,” is a must for any fan fortunate enough to find themselves in the San Diego area.
The third installment in what’s been dubbed the Legendary Pictures MonsterVerse – preceded by Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island – will see Gojira meet Ghidorah, Mothra and Rodan in a title fight of unimaginable magnitude next year when Godzilla: King of the Monsters crashes into theaters on May 31st.
