Guillermo Del Toro’s gothic haunted house caper, Crimson Peak, is primed to send shivers down our collective spines this October. Yes, that may be a long, LONG way off as we are only two days into the New Year, but luckily, a crop of scans from the latest issues of Total Film and Empire (via CBM) have landed online. This quartet of images offer us our first look at two of the main cast members: Tom Hiddleston and Mia Wasikowska.
The leading foursome is rounded out by Jessica Chastain – who we saw decked out in full period garb last month – and Charlie Hunnam. While Hunnam’s the last to be granted a photo reveal, this new batch of pictures promise an equally spooky look for him as well.
In the first image, Hiddleston stands before a large wooden staircase, which is presumably the same flight we saw Chastain poised in front of last month. His second photo shows him swallowed by the enormity of the grand house, which appears to be on the dilapidated side of things. Wasikowska, on the other hand, looks suitably coiffed while clutching a candelabra in one pic, and revealing a lot of back in another.
Prior to now, the brief storyline – “In the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider” – didn’t indicate who would be playing which part. Guesses were made, but nothing official had been publicized. Now, thanks to Total Film’s preview coverage of the film, three of the roles have been identified via this new synopsis:
“A young woman (Wasikowska) is swept off by her feet by a charismatic suitor (Hiddleston) and taken back to his ancestral home. There she finds more than she bargained for, including a jealous sister (Chastain) and more than a few skeletons in the closet.”
There’s time for plenty more to be revealed about the spooky homestead, and those who will come to inhabit it, before Crimson Peak opens its doors on October 16th, 2015.
